Whether Lincoln really is Bruce's brother or a ploy set by the Court of Owls in order to enlist him in their ranks is unresolved, with Bruce acknowledging that the evidence favoring March being Thomas Junior makes sense but certain that his parents would have told him if he had a brother, records stating that Thomas Junior died twelve hours after he was born even if another child was admitted to the orphanage with injuries matching what Thomas Junior would have suffered from.
In Batman: Dark Knight DynastyThomas and Martha are saved from death when 'Valentin Sinclair' — really Vandal Savagea man who has a long-standing interest and admiration for the Wayne family despite the fact that they often end up opposing him when they learn about his plans — scared off Joe Chill, Sinclair becoming a partner in Wayne Enterprises, only for Sinclair to have them killed when they threaten to expose his plan to divert a meteor that gave him his powers back to Earth so that he can study it.
Their deaths — triggered by Sinclair's fear-inducing henchman Scarecrone causing them to remember the mugging, driving them to flee Chill by running off their balcony — prompt Bruce to become Batman to investigate, Gordon having written their deaths off as an accident and Bruce Mother Of The Universe to investigate as himself because of the risk to his new wife, Julie Madison.
After Bruce Wayne is shot and killed by Joe Chill, Martha is unable to cope with her loss so she cuts open her cheeks to create a faux smile.
As Joker, she is the nemesis of Batman and uses Yo-Yo as a henchman. She kidnaps Harvey Dent 's son and daughter. Joker kills James Gordon after she tricks Gordon into shooting Harvey's daughter disguised as the Joker. After Dent's son and daughter are saved, Batman confronts Joker about their son's death. As Batman has recently met Barry AllenMartha learns that there is a way to rewrite history where Bruce will live although they will die.
Realizing that her son will be Batman in that timeline, Martha flees in horror, falling to her death in the caverns below Wayne Manor. In an alternate universe ruled by the tyrannical ' Planetary ' organization, Martha and her husband were part of a Mother Of The Universe 'League of Justice', an underground cell trying to revolt.
They were murdered by Elijah Snow. In the graphic novel Batman: Earth OneMartha's maiden name was Arkham instead of Kane in this alternate continuity. Martha's father was murdered by her mother when she was twelve, leaving her family with a series of scandals, including a rumor that the Arkham bloodline is peremptorily insane.
Martha was a campaign manager of her husband's mayoral campaign against Oswald Cobblepot. Cobblepot had planned to have a corrupt cop, Jacob Weaver, murder Thomas, but a mugger got to her family first and killed both her and her husband, leaving Bruce orphaned.
In the Elseworlds novel Batman: Holy Terror Martha works with Thomas and other medical professionals in an underground clinic treating victims of the religious theocracy that rules most of the planet.
In one example she makes note of a man that had been tortured to try to change his homosexuality. Martha Wayne's Earth 3 counterpart is featured in Forever Evil. In the revised Earth 3 alternate universe of "The New 52", all characters from the mainstream universe have corresponding counterparts albeit these counterparts are either a darker or outright evil version of the character.
Martha is the abusive and sadistic mother of Owlman, in contrast to Batman's mother being a kind woman who fought against child abuse and corruption. Martha blames her husband's surgical fetish for the family's huge expenses, despite the fact that she herself frequently indulges in the family fortune. Owlman orchestrates his parents' murder with the Alfred of Earth 3. Owlman later wonders why Batman would dedicate his life to avenging his parents' deaths.
In the opening of the first issue of the comic DC Comics Bombshellsset in an alternate historyMartha and Thomas Wayne's lives are saved by an already-existing Batwoman. In Andrew Vachss ' novel Batman: The Ultimate EvilBatman discovers that, prior to her death, Martha fought against sex trafficking and child sexual abuseheading a covert detection agency with help from Commissioner Gordon and the family butler Alfred Pennyworth. Batman also discovers that his parents' murder was not a random mugging, but was in fact orchestrated by a pedophile ring that Martha was investigating.

This team of "super-functionaries" the communist Chinese ethos rejects the word 'heroes' for a humbler one is based in China's Great Wall complex. This massive complex houses the team's command and support technicians as well as facilities for the creation of more Chinese superhumans. Yao had dreams of becoming a doctor but lacked the money for medical school. He enlisted in the army instead. When his unit was sent to suppress an uprising in GyantseTibet, Yao killed a monk named Tenzin Cering.
Horrified at what he'd done, he deserted his unit and was shot by his commanding officer. He was saved by a local medicine man who told Yao that his son, Tenzin, was supposed to be the seventeenth man to hold the position of the "Accomplished Perfect Physician"; since Tenzin was now dead, Yao was forced to take his place by Tenzin's father.
Tenzin tossed Yao through a magical portal, wherein he was filled with the memories and powers of the past Physicians. As the new Accomplished Perfect Physician, Yao was branded an outlaw and an enemy of the state for many years before he willingly joined the Great Ten. With simple vocal sounds, the Accomplished Perfect Physician can produce a variety of magical effects, such as physical or mental paralysis, force fields, the redirection of energies, healing, destruction of matter, and earthquakes.
The diplomat of the team, the Physician appears to be a collected individual with well-developed people skills. He does not get along well with his team leader, August General in Iron, who sees Yao only as an irreverent deserter. The Durlans wiped out his unit with a flesh-melting pathogen weapon. Fang barely survived by injecting himself with a counter-agent that slowed the degeneration.
Chinese scientists subjected him to special treatments which saved his life, but also endowed him with superhuman strength and caused his skin to grow iron-like plates. He was then recruited into China's new metahuman division. He wields a staff that can easily slice through metal. August General in Iron is the field leader of the Great Ten and while he commands the Great Ten, he must still run all command decisions in the field by the Central Committee.
He also serves as the Black King's Bishop in Checkmate. For some reason, he was immune to her deathly touch, and the two became lovers instead.
As a fanatical soldier, he despises the Accomplished Perfect Physician for his irreverent attitude and for deserting the army. In The New 52 a reboot in DC ComicsAugust General in Iron is invited to join the new Justice League Internationalwith the United Nations council that assembled the group noting that he was selected because he represents "the world's most populous nation".
His comments about the superiority of Chinese engineering quickly draw the ire of Rocket Red. As a teenager, Xu Tao sold souvenirs at the foot of Mount Tai.
After his father's business was shut down by corrupt police, he joined a gang to support his family. He was not a good thief, however, and a botched robbery landed his fellow gang members in jail. When they were released, they sought his death. They chased him to an old temple below Mount Tai. While hiding behind a tree, Tao was swallowed up by the earth, and found himself in a cavern where he found the Celestial Bow of Yi.
When Tao picked it up, he was transformed into the Celestial Archer and granted Yi the Archer 's godlike archery skills. The gods tasked him to serve as their agent on Earth, to inspire the Chinese and remind them of the old gods, whose worship was suppressed by the Communist government.
The Celestial Archer has unerring aim capable of shooting arrows charged with a mysterious energy, or that can turn day into night. Xu is an irreverent character, disrespectful of August General's authority. He considers his role in the Great Ten as secondary to his divine mission, something which landed him in trouble when he foolishly defected to a team of metahumans posing as Chinese deities.
She is charged with killing evil men, and has power over the ghosts of those men. Apparently her home city is powered by the souls of evil men, and her touch causes instant death. If Ghost Fox Killer does not kill off evil men for her colony, her society will fall. She has demonstrated undefined feelings of loyalty towards him. Fifteen years ago, a Durlan ship crashed in China's Qinghai province. The Chinese reverse-engineered the craft and used the technology to build the Dragonwing, the most advanced fighter plane in the world.
This type of bond gradually breaks down a human's molecular structure; each flight takes a year off the pilot's life. Kept in her work station, the gift was for the hard work she did. Often, however, Watto was unkind, understanding that Shmi had nothing valuable to trade—other Mother Of The Universe her son, whom she would never trade—to stop him from doing what he wished.
Thus, Watto took advantage of that all the time, such as how he allowed the boy to podracemuch to the anger of Shmi. During one race, she watched, angry at Watto and horrified, as her son crashed yet again, although she realized he had not been thrown from his podracer for once. Watto approached her, ignoring whatever pain Anakin could be in by claiming he was fine before flying off, ignoring her concern that, one day, her son would be seriously hurt.
As she had many times before, she made her way down to the racing pit, where she reunited with Anakin but saw that his legs were twisted. While she knew that Watto would pay to ensure his slave's legs recovered, Shmi held onto her son's hand to comfort herself. Before the rustic, yet effective, medical droids made Anakin unconscious to work on his legs, Anakin promised he would always be with her, yet Shmi privately promised he would one day leave her for a better life.
While Shmi and her son had initially believed that these offworlders had come to free slaves, they quickly learned that the strangers had become stranded on Tatooine after their starship 's hyperdrive was damaged during a diplomatic mission to the galactic capitalCoruscant. When Anakin offered to help Jinn and Mother Of The Universe companions to obtain money for the hyperdrive by winning the upcoming Boonta Eve Classic podrace, Shmi initially disagreed with the idea.
However, she relented when Anakin recalled her words on helping others. Skywalker revealed the truth about her son's parentage to Jinn—there had been no father. While Anakin repaired his podracerShmi told Jinn about her son's birth.
Later, Jinn tested Anakin and discovered that he was strong with the Force. Due to his high concentration of midi-chloriansJinn believed that Anakin was the prophesied Chosen One. The following day, Jinn offered to sponsor Anakin for the upcoming Boonta Eve race in return for securing Shmi and her son's emancipation if Anakin won that race.
However, Watto was unwilling to relinquish both slaves at the same time. Instead, they reached a compromise where Watto agreed to free Anakin if he won the race. The following day, Shmi along with the offworld visitors attended the Boonta Eve Classic. Despite great odds, her son Anakin won the race, and Watto was forced to honor his promise to emancipate Anakin. Following the race, Shmi and her son embraced each other with Shmi expressing pride in her son's achievements.
After securing Anakin's earnings from Watto, Jinn informed Shmi that he had secured Anakin's emancipation and offered to train him as a Jedi. With much difficulty, Shmi decided to part with her son. Realizing that Anakin would have a better future offworld, Shmi advised her son to grasp this new opportunity and told him to let her go on the rationale that her place and future was on Tatooine.
Prior to leaving for his new life on Coruscant, Anakin made a solemn vow that he would return and free her. After bidding farewell to her emancipated son, Skywalker gained her own freedom and started a new family. A few years before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Watto's gambling habit left him to be essentially destitute, forcing the Toydarian to sell Shmi.
Unfortunately, Sabe's efforts took many wrong turns, enlisting help from the wrong sources. Watto had seemingly dissappeared along with Shmi, and when Sabe asked of her whereabouts, they could only tell her that she had been sold.
When passing through Shmi's former residence, she noted a sign on the door that was likely a mark of the local liberation movement on Tatooine. By the end, Sabe's efforts lead her to buy the freedom of over 25 slaves, something she reported back to Amidala.
Undeterred, Amidala asked Sabe to continue her efforts to free more slaves on Tatooine. Lars purchased but freed her, and the two eventually married. She also became a loving step-mother to his son, Owen Lars.
Cliegg Mother Of The Universe a rescue party but lost most of his companions and his right leg during the rescue attempt. Believing Shmi to be dead and unwilling to risk any more lives, Lars abandoned the rescue.
However, Shmi was still alive but had been severely tortured and brutalized. Anakin immediately set off to Tatooine to find and save her with Senator Amidala accompanying him. After meeting with Watto, Anakin and Amidala arrived at the Lars family farm and learned about his mother's fate after Anakin left for Coruscant: freedom, marrying Cliegg and becoming stepmother to Owen Larsand her kidnapping.
Despite Cliegg' warnings and advice, Anakin traveled into the wilderness to find her.
