Big City Glory Hideaway Mono Reprise single B The Great Banana Hoax Alternate This marks WB's first utilization of TV spots. The artist wrote the script and was involved in the entire production.
Larry Secrest and Jon Fizdale handled the filming and production. A must. Seriously his music suffers because people tend to take it too seriously while it is basically just good old fashioned low-down blues with a contemporary slant.
It's more subdued than previous Beefheart excursions - he doesn't roar up and down the scale as he has been known to do, and the music is a little more organised, and predominantly blues although, of course, the Captain doesn't rigidly adhere to any accepted musical format. But for once, the band and Beefheart function together, rather than Beefheart putting on vocals way over and after the rest, his voice weaves the blues as much as the backing, and there's some splendid harmonica.
Listen especially to the title track. He's got a knack for bringing back old expressions and words and inventing new ones with new meanings to the old. The arrangements are especially well treated, as is the production. A lyric sheet is provided and the back cover assembles Don's art-worthy impressions of his band members.
Through the grapevine I hear he's exceptionally pleased with this LP. He has good reason to be. Actually, though there are only ten tracks on the album we recorded thirty-five songs altogether. In the last three years he informed me: "I have written 10 full length novels, 30 or 40 plays, 15, poems and produced paintings. An exhibition of his paintings is being arranged, a book of poems collated as "Singing Ink" will be published along with a full length novel entitled "Old Fart At Play" which he described as being "A lot further out than my music".
After arriving twenty minutes late, the group proceeded to play to an audience obviously full of admirers. The title cut from their new lp, "Clear Spot" brought excellent response along with an assortment of screeches, noises and other acceptable signs of approval. The gang of Coryell and Captain Beefheart appreciated an entertaining show that evening.
The big board is his own creation and justly proud he was. Containing modes of material from almost every walk of his recording career including a totally unprecedented - and rather dull - venture in the vein of Otis Redding called 'Too Much Time', complete with horns and girl-chorus No One Really Knows - Larry Coryell - Underground Vol.
11 (Vinyl, it has received a sharp, glinting production by Ted Templeman which makes it stand out at once from previous Beefheart albums; it's like a display case, a Heavy Metal Child's Garden of Beefheart, and 'Clear Spot' is the ideal place for a novitiate to begin his pilgrimage back into the depths of Magic Band Land.
That's right, Beefheart's gone "meaty music. More than just a new experiment in packaging. It asks the question, "Can a Captain from a far-out neighborhood find boogie happiness at the house of Burbank? Produced an album that creates its own irrelevant, largely cryptic inner sanctum. The uninitiated will? And, yes you are No One Really Knows - Larry Coryell - Underground Vol. 11 (Vinyl them on AM radio. A picture was obviously in order.
Taken from his latest album, "Clear Spot", there's nothing scary or obscure about it, and I certainly hope we see some chart action here. It's easier to appreciate his radiant vocal power when he's working in a tightly-constructed framework.
Do yourself a favor and pick up on this. It sounds like a soul single; the kind that sells well but which doesn't have a lot to it in terms of No One Really Knows - Larry Coryell - Underground Vol. 11 (Vinyl. There is a preponderance of brass, rough vocals and fading ladies' singing behind it. It's really very ordinary, albeit well produced mediocrity. And the only thing commercial about 'Clear Spot' is that it's selling more than any of the others. You're With It La La La My Love Will Never Die Saved Funny Thing Tomorrow Will Come The Critters Georgianna The group had been with Kapp Records and had been produced by Kama Sutra.
Under the new arrangement, they will produce their own records. While at Kapp, the Critters had five chart records. This week the Critters cut five sides for Project 3, with the first single to be released in two weeks. The label is already in the pop singles field with the Kissin' Cousins, but this group has an easy listening sound as contrasted with the rock sound of the Critters. Loaded with discotheque appeal and sales for the teen market, this should hit with impact.
James Ryan Writer: Ryan Uganda, BMI - The group's move to the Project 3 label has all the hallmarks of a big chart hit and should fast establish the label in the singles selling groove. Smooth blend and strong rhythm ballad material. New label from the Kama Sutra stable has a Critters side that should make noise. The Critters, now contracted to the Total Sound, Inc. The Critters claim that demonstration records made while under contract to Kama Sutra were made into master recordings and later released without the group's consent after the contract was terminated.
Should hit hard and fast. But the material here is so contrived and emotionally lightweight that the group's considerable vocal potential is frittered away. Pleasant harmonies work perfectly on these harmless, enjoyable ditties. While the emphasis is still on sugary sweet harmonies, the material here is generally strong and occasionally memorable, as in "How Can They Call This Cheating" and "Wasn't It You. Amazing Dope Tales As The River Flows On the Annellssongs label Hans has released both music in Swedish, with The Vegetarians in English, and some instrumental music.

It took five days and was filmed at my home studio. I hope you enjoy it. I'm on holiday now for a week, so posts will resume when I get back. The Rutles - The Shite Album Now that we've worked our way all the way back to the start of the band's career, I just need to mop up with a couple of albums from later on that should have appeared as the start of the series.
At the time I didn't realise it was going to take off quite as well as it did, and so I was posting random albums in no particular order, so this is the classic 'The Shite Album' and No One Really Knows - Larry Coryell - Underground Vol.
11 (Vinyl a double, it contains a wealth of great songs. There is a cover for this on the net, but I've made my own as I wanted to try to get the title to look as though it was embossed onto the sleeve. For once I don't have to worry about track listings and duplicated tracks, as this is an actual live album from the band, recorded during their UK tour. It's not the best audience recording, but I've beefed up the sound where it was a bit thin, and I've adapted the Hollywood Bowl sleeve to house it.
Now that we've almost completed the band's discography I thought it would be good to hear from the group themselves, and this is a fun way to do that.
The Rutles - Please Rut Me We've reached the beginning of the band's career now, with 'Please Rut Me'. I've also made a slight change to the cover to be more relevant to the track listing than the one to be found on the Rutles Wiki page. As a fitting finale to my posting of the complete Rutles discography I give you the Rutles answer to the Beatles 'Love' album. Painstakingly put together over a number of years by a fan with way too much time on his hands, this album is the perfect way to close the series.
There are loads of notes and the history of the making of the album included in the folder, so do read his account of making this masterpiece. A legacy that will last long after other musical legacies have ended. Born from a personal friendship and mutual admiration between now-retired Stig O'Hara and Circle founder Captain Liberty, 'LUNCH' brings the manic energy of Circle of Hay together with the spirit and trousers behind the semi-legendary Prefab Four to create a vivid, intimate and powerful entertainment experience.
The southwestern cast of actors, riders and dancers channel a raw, amateur energy underscored by performance, rodeo and country square dance.
With stereophonic sound and stereoscopic visuals, the audience experience The Rutles as not-quite before Men walked on the moon and then gave it up, finding that they could bounce higher and faster on backyard trampolines.
The Soviet Bloc toppled like dominoes The recording industry, always a numbers game, stunningly found itself unable to go truly digital - where only 2 numbers are required. Working with these CDs and a computer his father bought surplus from the East Adelaide Primary School, Stumpy has created a unique soundscape. Never LP to celebrate anniversaries, The Rutles are back because, well, why not? Now She's Left You transition. I Love You transition. Questionnaire transition.
We've Arrived! And to Prove It We're Here. I was going to call it a day, but then tried to think if there was way that I could use the live tracks, and had the idea of putting together a 'Star Club'-style live album. Fol&ar - Fol&ar (CD, Album)
