Tony Cascarino has backed Sean Dyche’s Everton to beat David Moyes’ West Ham United to the transfer of Manchester United centre-back, Harry Maguire.

The former Premier League striker thinks Harry Maguire, who was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy this summer, would ‘fit’ what Sean Dyche wants from his centre-halves, as he told talkSPORT.

West Ham are pushing to sign the England international, it has been suggested that they went Maguire alongside his teammate, Scott McTominay.

From a financial perspective, the Hammers are in a much better position than Everton, who are in a world of mess off the field and can’t really put big-money on the table.

Plus, that wad of cash received for Declan Rice is yet to be spent, but will the London club be willing to go overboard with their signings this summer? As of this moment, it doesn’t seem so.

Either way, if Everton can financially make it work, Cascarino has tipped the Merseyside club to secure Maguire’s talents.

“I think he has taken a bit of unfair criticism,” said Cascarino. “There have been blunders in there and there have been the odd mistake.

“But there have been parts of his Manchester United career where he has done really well – I can see him fitting in at Everton, if they can afford him. We don’t know the finances.

“West Ham have been mentioned. There will be two or three. Tottenham have been doing business already and you don’t know what the manager is thinking, but I think Sean Dyche would fit well with Harry Maguire.

“He has always focused his teams on Ben Mee and James Tarkowski. He really likes that mould of centre-half that is quite dominant and a threat at set-pieces. I think he likes that type of player. It’s not too far from Manchester. He could still stay where he lives. I think Everton would be a good fit.”

Dyche and Moyes would help Maguire’s game

It’s not working for the 30-year-old at Old Trafford and he doesn’t suit what Erik ten Hag wants from his centre-halves.

Both Moyes and Dyche like to remain compact, defend on the edge of their own box and want their defenders to have a presence about them.

Maguire has that, and if he moves to either club, then he would be going a long way to getting his declining career back on track.
