Man United were thrashed by Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday and we’ll bring you reaction from Anfield in our dedicated live blog.

United play Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester United were defeated 7-0 by rivals Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

United looked to be suffering a hangover from their League Cup victory against West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday, but they still managed to secure a 3-1 victory after completing a late comeback to ensure progression in the FA Cup.

Erik ten Hag’s side returned to Premier League action with a visit to Anfield, a stadium where United had not won since Louis van Gaal was in charge in January 2016, and that barren run continued in spectacular fashion

Although United were trailing 1-0 at half-time, they conceded six goals after the break and dramatically capitulated.

The result was also United’s worst defeat against Liverpool in the club’s history.

Recap the events from Anfield here.

Thank you for following our coverage today.

Fernandes has warned United’s defeat against Liverpool has the potential to be ‘psychologically damaging’.

United suffered heavy defeats against Brentford and Manchester City earlier in the season and it seemed such losses were behind Erik ten Hag’s improving side, but Sunday’s performance against Liverpool at Anfield was a reality check.

After trailing 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from Cody Gakpo, who Ten Hag wanted to sign in the summer transfer window, United conceded six goals in the second half to suffer the worst loss in the club’s history against Liverpool.

Luke Shaw has admitted he is ‘embarrassed’ about United’s performance after losing 7-0 against Liverpool.

After weeks of progress, United visited Anfield riding high on confidence but they were given a reality check instead. Liverpool were leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to Cody Gakpo’s goal, but the bulk of the damage was done after the break.

United conceded six goals after half-time and they spectacularly capitulated at the hands of their most fierce rivals.

Mentality monsters? United were mentally monstered. The scoreline against Liverpool was worse than under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last season.

Unlike the early evacuation of Old Trafford in October 2021, this was utterly at odds with United’s recent progress. This was a performance more in keeping with the white flag-waving displays of last season.

The only quadruple United experienced was another minimum four-goal battering. It was nearly double that. Liverpool have eviscerated United 5-0, 4-0 and 7-0 in the last 17 months.

David de Gea

Lisandro Martinez was in his eyeline for Cody Gakpo’s goal and his day just got worse from there. 3

Diogo Dalot

Came into the game after being admonished early on but his positioning was poor for the first goal and his afternoon got worse. 3

Raphael Varane

Inexplicably allowed Gakpo to come inside and have a free shot to start the goal glut. His worst performance of the season. 3

Shaw’s pass is pitiful but United had ample time to get into shape or get the ball back then. It’s not the first time they have started a second half badly, either, only they got away with it last month against poorer teams.

Garnacho and McTominay are warming up.
