With the 2022 summer transfer window closed, we round up the done deals, and some of the players linked with moves in and out of Manchester United.

A positive first window for Ten Hag at Man Utd?

Manchester United were one of two ‘Big Six’ clubs to break through the £100m spending mark this summer on two occasions, with the Old Trafford club investing £227m.

United’s spending continued right up until Deadline Day, with the £87m move for Antony from Ajax rounding a positive first window for Erik ten Hag. But there were times this summer when Manchester United’s stance on transfers appeared to be descending into chaos.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future provided a months-long distraction and there was just as much uncertainty over incomings as a string of mooted signings fell through, that of Frenkie de Jong chief among them.

Their hunt for a new midfielder, from De Jong to Adrien Rabiot to Casemiro, all fine players but all of whom offer very different qualities, summed up the ever-changing parameters of their recruitment and the same was true in attack.

And, if a 33-year-old Marko Arnautovic was at one point deemed to be the answer, what exactly was the question?

All of that aside, United have just about saved face in the transfer market, aided by their upturn in performances on the pitch. Ten Hag has already been able to mould the squad in his image and now has the tools to do the same to the team.

Manchester United completed the signing of Brazil winger Antony from Ajax for a fee of £86m on Deadline Day.

The 22-year-old signed a long-term deal at Old Trafford, and is in line to make his home debut against Arsenal on Super Sunday – live on Sky Sports Premier League.

The move to United sees Antony reunited with ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has already recruited defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club, and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of a late deal for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest.

If they can secure a move, they will allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave with both West Ham and Crystal Palace both interested in signing him.

Dest played under Erk ten Hag at Ajax.
