Goodbye for now!

Facundo Pellistri scored with the final kick of the game to rescue a draw for Manchester United against 10-man Athletic Bilbao in their final pre-season match in Dublin.

FULL-TIME: Man United 1-1 Athletic Bilbao

The final whistle goes in Dublin as Pellistri strikes late to ensure Man United avoid defeat in their last pre-season game.

GOAL: Man United 1-1 Athletic Bilbao (Pellistri)

92mins: With the last kick Man United level!

Pellistri grabs the equaliser from a Harry Maguire nod down, with the Uruguyan firing into the bottom corner.

Man United look to have snatched a draw.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

90mins: Two minutes are added on in Dublin.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

87mins: Late chances are coming as Man United load the box.

A cross finds the head of Jonny Evans, but a defender gets back well to prevent Maguire from connecting to equalise.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

Two more yellows.

Jonny Evans is the first Man United player in the booked after a mistimed challenge.

Imanol gets a yellow for stopping another dangerous Man United counter.

Man United eventually work the ball to the back post, where Harry Maguire sends it dangerously across the face of goal, but cannot pick out a team-mate.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

83mins: Athletic Bilbao have not taken this lightly with one red card and now two yellows cards in this friendly.

Dani Vivian chops down Forson to stop the Man United man from breaking.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

80mins: Hannibal has caught the eye out of the Man United substitutes in the second half.

He sees an effort blocked behind for another corner from the edge of the box.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

76mins: Huge applause as former Man United midfielder Ander Herrera comes on for the final 15 minutes.

Nolaskoain and Imanol are also on, with de Galarreta, Muniain, Lekue making way.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

71mins: A decent opening for Hannibal.

A cross finds the Man United youngster, who strikes first time over the crossbar.

Hannibal might feel he should have done better, but a tough one to take first time.

Red card – (Aitor Paredes)

Athletic Bilbao are down to 10 men!

Aitor Paredes sees red in this pre-season friendly. He is caught in possession by Hannibal and resorts to pulling back the half-time sub to stop him from running through on goal.

The referee shows a straight red card.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

65mins: Two more Man United changes now.

Jadon Sancho and Alvaro Fernandez make way after decent displays. Jonny Evans and Joe Hugill will play the final 25 minutes of this one.

Victor Lindelof will move to left back, with Evans partnering Maguire.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

64mins: Pellistri continues to be a pest for the Athletic Bilbao defence. He chases down a lost cause and wins possession.

He is pulled back by Lekue and waves an imaginary yellow card. The defender is booked.

Unai Simon punches away the resulting free kick.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

60mins: Just over the hour mark.

Athletic Bilbao wanted a free kick when Inaki Williams was blocked off by Maguire off the ball. They eventually get one when Pellistri is penalised in the middle of the park.

Man United half regained possession though, however, most of their play is in their own half at the moment.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

55mins: Chance now for Atletic Bilbao to get the ball into the box, after Maguire is penalised for holding out wide.

Munian again plays the ball square to the edge of the box and De Galarreta sends his second shot of the match into the stands.

The La Liga side make their second change as Sanchet comes off and Unai Gomez is on.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

51mins: Some pass from Eriksen, who sprays the ball about 50 yards from a diagonal crossfield.

Jadon Sancho chips a cross to the backpost, where Pellistri attempts to leap and head goalwards.

The ball drifts behind for a goal-kick, although the Uruguyan is convinced it should have been a corner.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

48mins: Dan Gore tests Unai Simon at the start of the second half after a decent looking move.

Pellistri crossed from the right to Jadon Sancho, who nods the ball down for Christian Eriksen.

The Dane is unable to bring the ball down to get a shot away and instead lays it off for Gore.

His low effort forces a diving spot from Simon.

SECOND HALF: Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

We are back underway and Athletic Bilbao have made a change of their own.

Goalscorer Nico Williams has done his work in Dublin. He has come off, with Villalibre coming on.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

Both teams are just making their way back out to the sound of drumming.

Not the usual set-up but Dublin is putting on the entertainment I guess.

Manchester United are bringing on Hannibal at half-time. He comes on for Van de Beek.

United trail at the break

HALF-TIME Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

The whistle goes for half-time and a young Manchester United side trail at the break.

More scrunity for Harry Maguire, after his error led to the game’s only goal.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

43mins: Forson looks to find Eriksen in the box with a backheel, but the Athletic Bilbao defence smuggle it behind for a corner.

No problems for Unai Simon in gathering a header from the set piece.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

38mins: A real lack of chances since the goal, but both sides are having to contend with a significant downpour in Dublin now.

Erik ten Hag appears on the edge of his technical area under a hood.

Man United 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

35mins: Both of the Williams brothers had looked a real threat for the Athletic Bilbao in the first half.

Have to credit Nico Williams, who sensed the chance and raced through on goal to receive the pass.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

26mins: A good chance from the free kick though.

Muniain passes it square to Lekue and the full back shot straight at Tom Heaton.

Either side and Heaton would have been in trouble.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

25mins: Confusion here…

Williams is brought down by Fernandez and the referee points to the spot initially.

The official then reverses his decision and eventually gives a free-kick right on the edge of the box.

Looks the right decision in fairness.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

22mins: Pellistri is on the ground in the penalty area, motitioning to the referee that he was pushed over.

Pellistri had been looking to get onto a clipped ball over the top.

Not much in the contact there I think.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

19mins: De Galarreta takes a touch out of his feet and fires a shot into the stand behind the goal for Athletic Bilbao.

At the other end, Jadon Sancho plays Van de Beek through with a well weighted pass, but the flag goes up against the Dutchman.

A very appreciative crowd in Dublin whenever Man United put together well crafted moves.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

14mins: Inaki Williams with his second chance in quick succession.

Athletic Bilbao work the ball well out wide, with a cutback to edge of the box finding Williams.

His scuffed effort is straight down Heaton’s throat.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

10mins: Athletic Bilbao are showing threat on the counter attack though, with the Williams brothers causing some concern to the United defence.

Harry Maguire wafts a foot at a Nico Williams cross, sending the ball skywards.

Inaki Williams gets up to head goalwards, but it is comfortably held by Tom Heaton.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

7mins: Pellistri has caught the eye in the early stages and is involved in most of Man United’s play at the moment.

He exchanges passes with Wan-Bissaka, before seeing a cross cleared.

A few minutes later he surges onto the ball in the centre of the pitch, but overruns it and eventually is tackled.

Dan Gore and Jadon Sancho are involved in United’s latest attack, with the pair eventually forcing a corner.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

3mins: Pellistri and Sancho combine again on the right.

Pellistri’s pass sends Sancho through on goal, with a slight question over offside.

Sancho switches the ball to his left foot but his effort is saved by Unai Simon. Sancho will feel he should have done better.

A great start by Erik ten Hag’s side to this one.

Man United 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

2mins: Almost a blistering start by Man United as Pellistri breaks rapidly, before passing out wide for Jadon Sancho.

Sancho’s cross is turned away, but a bright opening for United.

Onana fronts up and accepts blame after being lobbed from miles out

Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana was left embarrassed and says he ‘takes all the criticism’ after conceding early in his Old Trafford debut in a pre-season friendly against Lens.

The Manchester side had a shaky first-half performance, failing to make their return to Old Trafford far from impressive for home fans.

During his home debut, Onana was caught off his line by Lens’ Florian Sotoca who capitalised and lobbed the keeper from near the halfway line.

What does Hojlund’s arrival mean for Anthony Martial?

Rasmus Hojlund arrives with a £72million price tag and so, naturally, you’d expect him to be Manchester United’s first-choice centre forward this season.

Erik ten Hag was concerned about United’s lack of goals and the exciting Danish striker has been signed at considerable expense to remedy that.

Even if Ten Hag eases Hojlund into life in a red shirt, you’d anticipate that within a few weeks he will be leading the attack and hopefully taking his chances. All of which is bad news for Anthony Martial.

Here’s how Athletic Bilbao will line up

1. Unai Simón
18. De Marcos
31. Paredes
3. Vivian
15. Lekue
25. R. de Galarreta
6. Vesga
8. O. Sancet
11. N. Williams
10. Muniain
9. I. Williams

United’s new £72m frontman Hojlund gets Old Trafford reception

Rasmus Hojlund called his presentation to Manchester United fans at Old Trafford as a ‘dream’ come true after the club confirmed a deal with Atalanta worth up to £72million.

Hojlund was introduced to the crowd before Saturday’s friendly between United and Lens after signing a five-year contract with the option for another year, subject to international clearance.

United have agreed to pay £64m plus up to £8m in add-ons for the 20-year-old striker who has scored 27 goals in 87 club appearances for Atalanta, Sturm Graz and FC Copenhagen as well as six goals in six games for Denmark.

TEAM NEWS – How United will line up against Bilbao in Dublin

The United starting XI has just dropped and it’s a mixture of the experienced and the youthful as we might have expected with a lot of those players not involved against Lens yesterday not travelling.

Tom Heaton gets the nod in goal, with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof partnering one another in defence.

There’s a start in midfield for Donny van de Beek, alongside Christian Eriksen and youngster Daniel Gore.

Another academy prospect plays at left-back in Alvaro Fernandez, while Omari Forson gets the pick in attack flanked by Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri.

A very youthful complexion on the bench, too, with the honourable exception of 35-year-old Jonny Evans!

United fans planning a sit-in protest against the Glazers at Old Trafford

Manchester United supporters are planning to ramp up their protests against the Glazer family – and are planning an hour-long sit-in at their match against Nottingham Forest.

With the long-running takeover saga rumbling on as the season rapidly approaches, The 1958, a group who accuse the American owners of ’18 years of ignorance and silence’, will protesting at the Holy Trinity statue outside Old Trafford before United’s opener against Wolves next Monday.

While there, they will raise awareness of plans for a further protest, when fans will be asked to sit-in for 60 minutes following United’s match with Forest on August 26 – should the situation remain unresolved.

Onana left red-faced before United storm back to beat Lens

United beat Lens comfortably in the end yesterday but the headlines were stolen by a rather unfortunate gaffe by new goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Fans expected the Cameroonian sweeper-keeper style to maybe cause the odd different in communication – but not many expected him to be lobbed from 50 yards.

However, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro scored second-half goals to bail him out.

CHRIS WHEELER: It was only a minor blip for Mount who was able to see the funny side, and he will be confident that his first Old Trafford goal won’t be too long coming.
